is it appropriate for mother of the groom to wear long evening gloves to her sons formal wedding in july?

12-button gloves or longer should be worn only with full evening dress. They are inappropriate before 6:00, or at any occasion to which men wear black tie or dark suits.

If the wedding is a white-tie affair and is taking place in the evening, and the lady is wearing a full-length evening gown, then she may also wear gloves (even in July, the month being irrelevant). If the wedding itself is during the day but the reception is in the evening and is a white-tie affair, then she should wear a silk afternoon dress with hat, pearls, and wrist-length gloves to the wedding itself and may change into evening dress for the reception (again, assuming that her husband changes out of his morning coat into white tie and evening dress.

If her husband is contenting himself with a tux, she should content herself with mere eight-button gloves.
