What is the task of the flower girl and the ring bearer at a wedding?

I know every wedding there is a flower girl and a ring bearer. What is the duty of each, what do they do?

The flower girl carries a basket full of flower petals and sprinkles them on the aisle runner just before the bride walks down the aisle. The ring bearer carries a pillow down the aisle. The ring bearer does not carry the real ring down the aisle.
